Pop star Max George, from the band The Wanted, recently shared his harrowing experience of typing out his will on his phone while in the hospital, fearing he might not survive. Last month, the 36-year-old singer underwent life-saving pacemaker surgery in Manchester after being rushed to A&E.
Max credits his mother, Babs, for saving his life by ensuring he received emergency treatment for his heart condition. Describing the ordeal, Max mentioned waking up feeling unwell while staying at his mother's house in Manchester after returning from a tour in the US. His hands turned blue, and he struggled to sit up in bed due to extreme coldness and lethargy.
His mother, who works in healthcare, immediately recognized the severity of the situation and rushed him to their GP, who then advised them to head to A&E. Max was struck by panic and a sense of impending doom, feeling like his throat was closing up.
Doctors at the hospital discovered issues with the bottom part of Max's heart and suggested he needed a pacemaker. After a nerve-wracking wait for the surgery, Max finally underwent a three-hour operation, during which he witnessed some unsettling scenes but ultimately felt a sense of relief and gratitude upon waking up to see his girlfriend, Maisie Smith, by his side.
The recovery process was challenging, with Max facing moments of fear and uncertainty, but the support from his loved ones and the medical staff kept him going. He expressed gratitude for the care he received and the community of people he connected with who shared similar experiences.
Now back at his home in Manchester, Max is focusing on his recovery, enjoying walks with his dog, Albert, and reflecting on the life-changing experience he endured. Through his openness and courage in sharing his story, Max hopes to inspire others facing health challenges and raise awareness about heart conditions.
