A very familiar face has joined the cast of the Frasier reboot, as Peri Gilpin will be reprising her role as the iconic Roz Doyle.
Ever since the Paramount+ revival was revealed, fans had been wondering if any of the original cast would be returning alongside Kelsey Grammer in the starring role as Frasier Crane.
Shortly after Bebe Neuwirth’s part was announced, bosses have confirmed that Peri will also be back as the radio psychiatrist’s close pal.
She will be popping up as a guest star in one upcoming episode, but there have been no further details on how she will fit into the revival, and whether Roz’s daughter, Alice, is coming along for the ride.
A post from the official Paramount+ Twitter page showed Peri’s cast chair beside the ‘Frasier’ seat backstage, revealing the news.
‘We’ve missed you, Roz,’ a message alongside the upload read. ‘Peri Gilpin is returning to guest star in an episode of #Frasier.’
Fans were living for the update and shared their delight on the Frasier Reddit page.
One commented: ‘This made my day! She’s one of my favorites, and I hope she appears regularly. And maybe we’ll meet Alice too!’
‘This alone makes the whole reboot worth it,’ another agreed.
‘YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was hoping she would,’ a follower yelled.
As a Reddit user celebrated: ‘All hail Rozalinda!’
While many more shared their hopes that David Hyde Pierce and Jane Leeves, who starred as Niles and Daphne Crane, would be the next guests announced.
Frasier – a spin-off of the beloved Cheers – first aired in 1993 and became an instant hit, going on to win a whopping 37 Emmys and two Golden Globes during the 11-year run.
The revival was commissioned by Paramount+ and will see Frasier back on our screens nearly 20 years after the acclaimed sitcom ended.
Little else is known about the plot, but it is thought that the doctor will be surrounded by a new group of characters – including Nicholas Lyndhurst, Anders Keith and Jack Cutmore-Scott – who will star as Frasier’s son, Frederick.
Last month, Bebe was confirmed to return as the psychiatrist’s ex-wife, Lilith Crane – but things are set to be less than cordial between the former couple.
‘When they reunite at Freddy’s birthday party, Lilith (Neuwirth), in classic form, is far from pleased about having to share Freddy (Cutmore-Scott) now that Frasier (Grammer) is back living in Boston,’ a synopsis obtained by Deadline reads.
‘What begins as a fun party with friends and family, inevitably becomes a Lilith-and-Frasier showdown for the ages.’
Bring it on.
